Nobody is Safe from Themselves

Dear Reader,
In the following post I will inform you about my book, Busted, and the ever present theme that surrounds the multiple stories within the novel. The main theme in this book would be that there are consequences for any action and every person that commits an action. This theme is relevant in every story dealing with drug and alcohol abuse, gambling and bullying. The stories stress the idea that no matter who are where you are, you are never safe from the consequences for your actions. This theme will be present in the following blog that will relate to the novel that a have recently read.

Dear Mom,
It is defiantly taking me some time to adjust to this place to say the least. It is hard to believe that just after I graduated high school I have ended up here instead of being in college with all of my friends. I am still in shock and ashamed of that faithful night after prom and I cannot believe what really happened did. I don’t think that anybody really expected what my friends and I were up to that night and obviously I wasn’t really aware of the severity of my actions. I guess that I should’ve known what a mistake I was making, seeing that I was a perfect 4.0 student and an active member of the national honor society. I just didn’t realize that I would be tried as an adult at the age of eighteen and that the punishment was much worse than any of my friends (who were minors) would receive. Every time I think about it I feel sick to my stomach knowing that I have thrown my whole life away, really, who would ever hire or accept an ex convict? Besides everybody is going to look at me just like they look at the murderers in here, not the high school senior who made a terrible mistake. I don’t think I will ever be able to except what I did and move on, how did I know that we would get busted for the drugs? I didn’t think that it would happen to me or any of my friends, maybe some of the obvious pot heads at the school but never us. I always thought that what we were doing was just fun and memories of our final major high school experience, not a six year jail sentence on drug possession and distribution. I guess it just goes to show, nobody is ever safe from getting caught and anybody can pay harsh consequences for there actions.

“Every choice carries a consequence. For better or worse, each choice is the unavoidable consequence of its predecessor. There are not exceptions. If you can accept that a bad choice carries the seed of its own punishment, why not accept the fact that a good choice yields desirable fruit?”

Relfection

Within this project I chose to due the different genres relating to my main theme for multiple reasons. One reason was because these genres were very relatable to my theme. For example, the police report and letter from prison represented the consequences that I teen faced for his actions as did many of the characters within the book.  These different genres reflected how my theme worked in different and seemingly all situations outside of the book and represented how relatable the theme of the book is.
